Telling the whole story about violence

The numbers are not on our side. Murders are up. Shootings are markedly up.

But more care about what’s happening, and more put their energy and expertise into making a difference.

And that’s the story we hope we’ll make available at our Jan. 29th gathering besides the heartbreaking one about what’s happening on some Chicago streets.

Our goal – as before – is to link community groups, experts, activists – anyone who has a voice that matters when it comes to youth violence – with the news media.

And so, we’re looking for more voices in addition to those who took part in our last gathering this past June. Please contact me if you someone or a group who we need to make available to the news media.

Here’s info we are putting out. Please pass it along and please join us.  steve

Facing Youth Violence in Chicago
A meeting on Tuesday, January 29th

Have you ever talked with a reporter covering youth violence?

Probably not enough.

The Community Media Workshop‘s youth violence project is inviting journalists to meet with community groups, activists and specialists on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. We will meet from 10 am to Noon at 618 S. Michigan, Stage Two, at Columbia College.

Think speed interviewing.

Our goal is to help the news media expand its contacts, to hear from folks close to the issue, to think about new ways to tell this terribly important story and to begin to look as solutions as well as problems.

If you want to take part in the meeting or know more about the event, please contact Steve Franklin –

We’ll create a list of groups and contacts to help the news media, so if there’s an effort you want to highlight about your work or your organization, please let us know.

WHERE: Stage Two, Columbia College Chicago –
618 S. Michigan, Chicago, IL 60605

WHEN: January 29, 10 am to 12 noon
