Hoops in the Hood Cross-City Tournament brings neighborhoods together to stand against violence

Community tournament is one of many programs promoting nonviolent alternatives

The best basketball teams from 10 different Chicago neighborhoods competed in the fourth annual Hoops in the Hood Cross-City Tournament to not only showcase their athletic skills, but demonstrate how a positive competitive outlet for youth can promote healthy lifestyles, neighborhood safety and nonviolence.  The tournament, which is sponsored by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation/Chicago (LISC/Chicago) and State Farm Insurance Companies, brought together more than 200 athletes ranging from ages 8 to 19 years old to Seward Park recently.
